Frequently asked questions
The questions drivers in Dubai ask most about fines and black points
How do I check my traffic fines in Dubai?
You can check your traffic fines through the Dubai Police app, the Dubai Police website, the RTA website, or by SMS. You only need your plate number, traffic file number or Emirates ID. Use our guide to understand the fine amounts and black points before paying.
What is the fine for speeding in Dubai?
Speeding fines in Dubai range from AED 300 for exceeding the limit by up to 20 km/h, to AED 3,000 for exceeding it by more than 80 km/h. Heavier speeding fines also carry black points and can lead to the vehicle being impounded for up to 60 days.
How many black points can you get in Dubai?
In Dubai, if you accumulate 24 black points within one year, your driving licence is suspended. The suspension lasts three months the first time, six months the second time and one year the third time. Points stay on your record for 12 months from the date of the violation.
Is there a discount on Dubai traffic fines?
Dubai Police periodically offer discounts of 25% to 50% for fines paid within a set period, plus occasional amnesty campaigns tied to national holidays. Discounts do not apply to serious violations such as reckless driving or driving under the influence. Always confirm current offers on the official Dubai Police channels.
What happens if I do not pay my Dubai traffic fine?
Unpaid fines block vehicle registration renewal and can accumulate late penalties. Large outstanding amounts may prevent you from renewing your driving licence, and in serious cases can result in a travel ban until the balance is settled.
Do tourists and rental car drivers get fined in Dubai?
Yes. Fines from radars and cameras are registered against the vehicle plate, so rental companies charge them to the driver, usually with an administrative fee. Visitors driving on an international licence are subject to exactly the same fines and black points as residents.
